Mapplewell fighter Lee Gibbons accepts he has his work cut out to maintain his winning streak tomorrow night.

The lightweight southpaw, 26, lost his first two contests before earning three wins on the bounce. He now faces unbeaten prospect Ohara 'Two Tank' Davies at the O2 Arena in London. Davies, from Hackney, is being touted as the next big thing by promoters Matchroom Sport and has stopped three of his four opponents so far.

Gibbons will be his first foe with a winning record and the Barnsley man is excited that the six-rounder will be on the Sky-televised bill. He said: "It will be the lightest I've ever been and the first time I've weighed in the day before a fight. "I'm not sure who will be the bigger man on the night of the fight but I am going there to try and beat him – just like I would for any other fight.

"He looks a bit cocky.  I know he won't have taken training lightly but he might be taking me lightly."

Gibbons, who works as a carding machine fettler at a textile mill in Denby Dale, feels his style can upset the Londoner. "Looking at my record, he won't know that I can dig a bit," said Gibbons.

"I'm unorthodox and I have a style that can upset people.  Even as an amateur, people gave up boxing after fighting me."

Meanwhile, Barnsley-born cruiserweight Matty Askin has been handed a shot at the British and Commonwealth titles.

Reigning English champion Askin, 26, who is the grandson of former Wombwell trainer Terry Halpin, fights out of Blackpool and his first crack at the Lord Lonsdale belt will be over the Pennines in Widnes.

Standing in his way is the Jamaican-born powerhouse Ovill McKenzie but Askin feels like he can also power to victory. He said: "It's time for a change at the top and McKenzie's getting knocked out.  He's just a hard-hitting light-heavyweight, I'm a proper cruiserweight and let's see if his strength and power can bother me.  I respect him for what he's done, winning the British and Commonwealth titles in his last two fights, but now I believe that it's my time to shine."

Stairfoot light-middleweight Matthew 'Buster' Mallin's upcoming fight with Adam Jones will be for the Central Area title.
