ENGLAND’S World Cup dream may be over for another four years - but it hasn’t stopped a memorabilia collector showing off his treasure trove of artefacts from their 1966 win.

Les Hobson, of Saxton Close, Elsecar, began collecting trinkets relating to England’s 4-2 win over West Germany at Wembley 50 years ago - a bulging collection which now has an estimated worth of £85,000.

With many items such as footballs, framed photographs and letters signed by the World Cup-winning squad, the 75-year-old says it’s priceless to him.

“There’s a lot of interesting pieces in the collection, which is all over the house as the collection has grown and grown,” Les added.

“It was a very special occasion that’s never been repeated so it’s enjoyable to be reminded of the World Cup win.”
