Liam Lindsay is pleased to have played more games than anyone else for Barnsley in 2018.

It is a year in which the 23-year-old centre-back, who moved from Scottish club Partick Thistle at the start of last season, has played 46 games so far with one remaining.

He has experienced relegation from the Championship in his first season in English football but is now hoping to follow it up immediately with promotion.

Lindsay told the Chronicle: “I am delighted. If you had told me before I came down here that I would have played this many games I wouldn’t have believed you. It’s been a great experience for me and I just want to keep learning more and more.”

Lindsay was dropped for Adam Jackson for the home game against Portsmouth on December 15, but came back into the side for the matches at Blackpool on Saturday and at home to Peterborough United on Wednesday.

He said: “It is tough for anyone who gets dropped, but Jacko has got a lot of quality and he’s been training well so it is hard for me to say anything about it. We have such good players on the bench. I just had to bide my time and get back in and I’ve done that.

“Anyone can step in and replace anyone. You need to be at the top of your game. I am happy to be back in.”

Lindsay is confident that the Reds can go up this season. He said: “We just need to be more consistent. It will be a big second half of the season for us. There’s no excuses for us now and we need to kick on. We probably should have more points because we have a brilliant team for League One. But, if we keep our heads, I think we can go up.”
