A VOTE to name the new town centre library has been branded a ‘fiasco’, with the council accused of ignoring the public’s preferred choice for the £5.3m building.
The new name - Library @ Lightbox - was announced by Barnsley Council on Wednesday, and is mash-up of the two most popular suggestions, Barnsley Library and The Lightbox.
The council faced a backlash on social media following the announcement, with people complaining the vote had been a pointless exercise because it had put the decision to a public decision and didn’t go with the most popular choice - Barnsley Library.
That option received 866 votes compared with second favourite The Lightbox with 709 votes.
