A HEALTH clinic has raised money to buy a defibrillator for its patients.

Staff at physiotherapy centre, Roundwood Health Clinic, on Doncaster Road, helped raise £800 to provide the centre with a defibrillator. It took staff 18 months to raise the money which was achieved by selling gifts and crafts at a Christmas Fair. The practice manager, Elaine Kaye, also ran the Leeds half-marathon with her daughters to raise funds.

Claire Bailey, director at Roundwood, said: “At Roundwood we have many patients attending the clinic every week. Some of whom are at increased risk of cardiac arrest due to recent surgery they have undergone or other problems with their health.

“We recently completed our annual first aid training and the instructor informed us that most companies only purchase a defibrillator after there has been an incident, effectively when it’s ‘too late’.

“We wanted to ensure that wasn’t the case at Roundwood Health Clinic. It was also important to us to be able to help the local community should a defibrillator ever be required.”
