A LITTLE girl who chopped off her locks to donate to charity has been nominated for a Young Champions Award.

Abi Wood, eight, of Collins Close, Dodworth, had 27cm of her hair cut off in August and donated it to the Little Princess Trust. In addition to this, she also managed to raise £200 for Barnsley Hospice in sponsorship.

Her fundraising efforts have been recognised and she has been nominated for a Young Champions award under the Young Fundraiser category

Sarah, Abi’s mum, said: “Abi is the type of girl who always wants to do things for other people. She was the one who decided to donate her hair as she wanted to do something a bit different.

“She was initially shocked when she did have her hair cut off but when she received a certificate from the Little Princess Trust she was delighted and it hit home for her to see how her actions were helping people and made a difference to their lives. I am incredibly proud of her and her selfless attitude and we are chuffed to bits that she has been nominated for a Young Champions award.”
