WHEN Matty Whelan was just three-years-old he was already racing around the streets on his BMX bike minus its stabilisers.

By the time he was four he had persuaded his dad Phil to buy him something that could go faster- an Italijet 50cc scrambler.

He has not stopped racing since and now, at the age of 19, is competing in British Motorcycle Racing’s ThunderSport class and insists he want to just keep getting faster and faster.

Matty started off as a trials bike rider and when he was just nine-years-old finished in the top six of the ACU 50cc British Trial Championship.

But three years ago he went to watch some road racing and decided that was what he really wanted to do.
