Hoylandswaine missed out on the Barnsley Sunday League Division Two title and promotion to the top flight as they were beaten at home to Wath on Sunday – the final day of the season.
Wath posted a huge total of 359 for five in their 40 overs with captain Rob Barlow smashing 166 and junior Patrick License adding an excellent 100. Swaine were bowled out for 230 as Jack Lockwood top-scored with 86 and Wath's Mason Bannister took four wickets. The hosts would have come first with victory but have instead finished outside the two promotion places in third. The previous day, century-maker Lockwood and veteran captain Colin Chapman shared a club record eighth-wicket stand of 109 in Swaine's home win over Sprotbrough. Lockwood smacked 139 off 99 balls while Chapman, 62, added an unbeaten ten – in his final game for the club – as the hosts made 250 for eight. Then Kyle Lockwood, who earlier scored 30 runs, took four wickets as Sprotbrough fell short on 180 for nine. Dylan Smythe claimed three for 38 and Ben Hoyle two for 47.
Rob Jones took a hat-trick in Wombwell Main's win at Thorpe Hesley and High Green which secured promotion from Division Four on Sunday. The hosts were bowled out for 166 as Jones claimed three for eight off his four overs and was supported by Tom Peck (three for 11) and Jack Tonks (three for 19.) Wombwell openers Nathan Newman (66) and Jonathan Woodhead (57 not out) then secured the eight-wicket success.
Green Moor have come second in the Huddersfield Central League, which they won last year. Julian Bates hit 109 to lead Green Moor to 184 for seven at fourth-placed Edgerton and Dalton on Saturday. The hosts were bowled out for 141 with Mark Elsworth taking four wickets while there were two each for Liam Burkinshaw, Joe White and Ben Askey.
Silkstone United 2nd XI avoided relegation from South Yorkshire Division Four West with victory at mid-table Harley. Openers Matt Bennett (51) and Kevin Bennett (46) helped Silkstone to 187 for seven with Harley's Neil Cawthorn taking three for 17. Robert Wootton took two wickets then top-scored with 31 as Harley were skittled for 81. Silkstone's Sean Pitt claimed four for 20 and there were two wickets each for Ross Whitmore and Tony Clegg. At the other end of the table, promoted Kexborough 2nd XI finished with victory at Rotherham Phoenix 2nd XI. Kexborough recovered from 20 for seven to post 112 thanks to Liam Adams (39), Dale Shillito (26) and Craig Brook (18). But Phoenix were out for 41 after great bowling from junior Lewis Bray (four for 11), Tom Lees (four for eight) and Neil Hinchliffe (two for four).
