Two young Barnsley batsman, Danny Rafiq and Tom Goldsby-West, recorded incredible centuries on Saturday in the South Yorkshire League.

Goldsby-West has a remarkable average of 347 this season after he hit a spectacular 151 not out as Division Three East leaders Wombwell Main made it six wins from six at Sheffield United 2nd XI. Goldsby-West has been dismissed just once this year and followed up two half-centuries by hitting 100 in boundaries with 21 fours and three sixes off his 113 balls. The all-rounder, who also has ten wickets so far, shared a stand of 168 with Nathan Newman (53) which took Wombwell to 286 for three. Sheffield United were bowled out for 121 with Tom Peck claiming four wickets and three each going to Matt Sewell and Joe Ashurst.

Meanwhile, Rafiq, the younger brother of former Yorkshire captain Azeem, smashed 172 off 85 balls in Division One leaders Barnsley 2nd XI's 190-run success at Whitley Hall 2nd XI. He hit 13 sixes and 16 fours while Beck Frostick supported with 63 as the Shaw Laners reached 342 for nine off 50 overs. The hosts were bowled out for 152 as Nathan Firn took four for 38 and Ashley Potter three for 21.

In the Yorkshire League, Barnsley bounced back from a home defeat to Appleby Frodingham on Saturday by completing the double over old enemies York for the first time in more than a decade on Monday. Barnsley are fourth in the table – 14 points behind leaders Harrogate with a game in hand – after they chased 251 to make it three straight victories over York who had previously beaten them 18 times in a row.

In the Pontefract League, Luke Ogden scored his second century in as many Saturdays as Monk Bretton triumphed with three balls left in their Barnsley derby against winless West Bretton in Division One. West Bretton captain David Hoyle (80 not out) led them to 217 for six but Ogden hit 104 for the Monks then Craig Heppenstall (43) smashed a six to win it.Ogden then made it three tons in a row the following day in the Sunday League.

There was another all-Barnsley clash in Division Three of the Pontefract League as Darton won by six wickets at Notton. Home batter Steve Filtness top-scored with 67 and there were three wickets each for Darton’s Scott Whittlestone and Harry Moore as Notton made 198 for nine. Andrew Wood (93) and Josh Holmes (53 not out) secured the win with 35 balls remaining.

In the Huddersfield League, Hoylandswaine posted a huge total of 405 for five in their Bank Holiday Monday success at home to Delph and Dobcross. Brilliant knocks from Ryan Robinson (137) and Max Joice (83) set Swaine on their way before Yassir Abbas (47 not out) and Ben Potter (43 not out) gave them a strong finish. The visitors fell 208 runs short as Zafir Patel (four for 35) helped bowl them out for 197.

Swaine won by 15 runs at Kirkburton on Saturday. Abbas top-scored with 38 as Swaine were skittled for 188 then took five wickets to bowl the hosts out for 173. Cawthorne also recorded two victories over the weekend.

Liam Wiles smashed his second successive victory with 139 and Ben Simpson added a superb 117 as Cawthorne reached 309 for seven at Armitage Bridge in the Oddfellows Cup on Monday. The hosts fell 42 runs short of their target with 267 for nine.

Cawthorne moved into the promotion spots in the Championship on Saturday after a 107-run win over Marsden. Lewis Skelley (69) and Muztuza Hussain (52 not out) led Cawthorne to 237 for six then the hosts were dismissed for 130 with Wiles taking three for 19.
