A YOUNG man has described the terrifying moment he narrowly escaped being hit by an out of control car on his way to work.

The crash, on the junction of Dodworth Road, Shaw Lane and Westbourne Terrace saw a Ford Focus estate mount the pavement at about 9am last Thursday and smash a stone garden wall to pieces, and was featured in last week’s Chronicle.

It was captured on CCTV which showed a mystery walker - now known to be 20-year-old James Bray - walking past just two seconds before the car smashed into the garden.

James, from Hermit Lane, Higham, got in touch with the Chronicle this week. “I was running late and had just got past the end of Shaw Lane when I heard tyres screech and saw the car shoot out and into the wall,” he said.

“All I thought was it’s coming and its going to hurt - I just shut my eyes and waited until it was over. When I opened them again I saw two blokes jump out and start running down Shaw Lane. It sent me into shock, I was just standing there.

“My Mrs is pregnant with our kid, and it doesn’t bear thinking about what could have happened. If I had stopped for some reason, been messing on my phone, I could have been in the way.”
