HE was a quietly spoken regular churchgoer who never had children of his own, but believed that all youngsters deserved “a leg up”.

So when former miner and widower Allen Fiddament made a will he knew exactly what he wanted to do with the Goldthorpe home he had lived in for years.

Mr Fiddament, who died in April aged 87, left instructions that his terraced home in Queen Street, Goldthorpe, should be sold and, after a few small bequests to close friends, all the remaining money be donated to Bluebell Wood children’s hospice.

The sale of that two bedroomed house is now almost completed which means the children’s hospice will shortly be receiving £30,000.
