A HEMSWORTH man spent 50 hours locked in a glass box at a local supermarket to raise awareness of autism.

Micky Lockey, 26, entered the three-by-two metre structure at 12pm on August 10 at Tesco’s superstore in the village and didn’t leave until 2pm two days later.

Micky, who set a target of raising £2,000 for charity Caudwell Children, smashed his goal and more than £5,000 has been generated from the event, dubbed ‘Locked in for Autism’.

“Autism is one of the country’s most prevalent disabilities with 133,500 children currently diagnosed with the condition in the UK,” he said. “That’s a staggering number and yet many people, including myself, have little or no understanding of the disability.”
