A MUSIC festival’s organisers released a charity single in a bid to raise funds for Barnsley Hospital after its frontline staff helped a friend - and a local singer’s dad - recover from coronavirus.
Members of Barnsley Live, which takes place in the town centre annually but has been cancelled this summer, released a collaboration cover of ‘Somewhere Over the Rainbow’ and ‘What a Wonderful World’ last night at 8pm - with the single available on Spotify, Kicker and CD.
Jack Dickson, 17, who is one of the collective and a vocalist on the cover, said: “I was more than happy when I was asked to be a part of the song as I felt it gave me an opportunity to give a little bit back to Barnsley Hospital who helped my dad, James Dickson, recover.
“They did such a great job caring for him and they continue to do an amazing job fighting the virus each day.”
The organisers of the event, Chris Scarfe, Kev Parkin, Matt Smith, Ryan Thompson and Stuart Robinson, added: “More than 20 musicians contributed vocals to create what we feel is a very fitting thanks to our local key workers.
“Barnsley has a mentality of all pulling together when things get a little tough, and the resilience of the local people has really shone through in this really strange time.”
Barnsley artist, Neil Richardson, created the artwork for the cover, of which 40 limited edition prints will be available.
