A BARNSLEY woman who has organised a Christmas shoebox appeal to help the homeless has been blown away by the kindness shown by local folk.

The appeal is being co-ordinated by Monk Bretton lass Gemma Buckley who wants to deliver a double-whammy of goodness this Christmas by giving a little gift to rough sleepers, the homeless, elderly people who may not have family at Christmas - as well as the dogs of the homeless.

Gemma, 32, called on local folk to get involved and donate present-packed shoeboxes, which will be handed out at a special Christmas dinner taking place at Barnsley Churches Drop-in Project on John Street, Barnsley, on December 23.

The idea of the appeal is to wrap a shoebox in Christmas paper, stuffing it with useful items like hats, socks, toothpaste, toothbrushes, deodorant, face wipes, sanitary products, packet soups and drink sachets.
