A BARNSLEY woman who lost her brother to leukaemia is preparing to take part in Yorkshire Cancer Research’s inaugural ‘Parky Run’, which takes place at Cannon Hall Farm on June 19.

Carrie Knapton, a membership executive for Barnsley and Rotherham Chamber of Commerce, is hoping to complete the 5K course after recently losing three-and-a-half stone.

The 31-year-old of Cherrys Road, Cundy Cross, said: “I’ve never run any distance before, but I’ve got the bug now. I’ve been completing long-ish distances on a regular basis recently.

“I started off just walking the dog and slowly built up to a gentle jog for the majority of the way.”

Carrie’s brother Adrian Sudbury died of leukaemia at the age of 27 in August 2008.
