ABOUT £10,000 has been raised to help a mother renovate the house where her two sons died in a fire started by their own father.

Jack Sykes, 12, and his brother Paul, nine, died after the devastating blaze started by their father Darren Sykes last October.

A £70,000 appeal is being spearheaded by Rev David Hopkin, rector of Thurlstone and Penistone Team Ministry, to help their grieving mother Claire Throssell to refurbish and sell the former family home so she can buy a new home in Penistone.

Floods of donations have been received through a fund-raising website, as well as cash and cheques which have not yet been transferred.

There have also been offers from labourers, kitchen companies and window companies pledging to offer their services free of charge.
