MORE than 130 volunteers have ploughed more than 600 hours into looking after wildlife on their doorstep as part of a partnership between Barnsley Council and Yorkshire Wildlife Trust.

The partnership vision is to create a chain of high quality parks and green spaces surrounding Barnsley town centre, providing homes for wildlife where people can become ‘reacquainted with the positive power of nature’.

The sites, which include Dearne Valley Country Park, Carlton Marsh, Barnsley Main and Littleworth Park, are at the heart of the community and six months into the project there have already been great successes with 131 volunteers giving a total of 611 hours of their time at a variety of events.
