AN average of 30 reports for breaches of Covid-19 restrictions were received each day at the height of lockdown, according to a report.
The report was issued to Tuesday’s meeting of Barnsley Council’s overview and scrutiny committee by the Safer Barnsley Partnership - a multi-agency group targeted at tackling crime, antisocial behaviour and disorder.
The majority of these - 73 per cent - concerned visitors to private dwellings, which were dealt with by the police being deployed to the address.
Police increased patrols in ‘hotspot’ public spaces where people were reported as failing to adhere to social distancing guidelines - 24 per cent of reports - while prohibited businesses remaining open accounted for three per cent of reports and were referred to the council’s regulatory services department.
Police issued 23 fixed penalty notices where ‘numerous warnings had been issued to no avail’.
There were three Covid-19 related hate crimes reported in Barnsley.
