Kevin Long's loan spell at Oakwell has been extended for a further month.

The Irish defender, 25, agreed to stay with Barnsley until mid January on Wednesday morning.

Long, who scored the winner on his debut against Oldham before being sent off in the next game against Peterborough, is pleased to have the opportunity to get more football under his belt after making his return on Saturday against Wigan.

He said: "I think the whole idea of coming out on loan was to play games.

"I just want to get a run in now of five or six. I hope to get all the games in and see what happens from then.

"I'm looking forward to playing some more games now."

Long says he still has a bit to prove after his suspension for the red card resulted in him missing half of his current spell.

He added: "It's been extremely frustrating. I've still been training here but training and not being able to play isn't good.

"Every player wants to play games. Nobody wants to be sitting around watching.

"The first two games I was running on adrenaline rather than fitness.

"I don't think I was at my best against Wigan but I want to show the fans what I'm all about in the next few games."

There is a recall clause in the deal incase parent club Burnley suffer injuries to defenders.
