THE results of a police-led anti-speeding scheme on a road which has been the subject of a safety campaign fronted by the family of a teenager who was fatally struck by a car will be revealed next week.

Cyclist Fin Bell, 17, died a day after being involved in a collision on Shaw Lane, Carlton, on December 23, 2017.

The 17-year-old’s father, Lyndon, and friend Olivia Holland have secured more than 350 signatures in their petition which is calling for a speed camera to be installed on the road.

Having attended the area’s PACT meeting, which is led by local police, in January, the pair’s campaign prompted Sgt Richard Wilson to pledge his officers’ involvement in trying to reduce concerns about speeding.

In the last six weeks, marked patrol cars have been using the route and officers have been carrying out anti-speeding operations.

Sgt Wilson said: “We’re aware of Shaw Lane’s problems with speeding and from our point of view a short, sharp shock was necessary before looking at the long-term solution.

“We’ve been looking at statistics for the road in order to decide whether a mobile speed van or a fixed camera can be placed there.”

The results of the police’s work on Shaw Lane will be fed back to members of the PACT meeting, which will take place at The Grove, Royston, at 10am on Tuesday.
