A 1970s' high school musical co-written by a former member of boy band Busted will be performed by a Penistone youth theatre group.

'Loserville', created by Elliot Davis and pop star James Bourne, will be on stage for three nights, courtesy of singers and dancers from Razzmatazz Community Youth Theatre.

The show follows the aptly named Michael Dork and his computer-geek friends as they attempt to send the world's first email with the help of the school's beautiful new girl, Holly, who dreams of becoming the first American woman in space.

Josh Hodgson will play the lead role of Michael, with Katie Donoghue as Holly, Billy Marsden as Michael's friend Lucas and Joe Reid in the part of Eddie Arch.

Theatre group founder Christine Cooksey said the cast had received messages of support from the writers of the musical.

"We've been tweeted by James Bourne wishing us luck in the performance, and also by Elliot Davis.

"It's really nice to have them wishing us well and saying 'it's great it's going on'.

"It's a very up-and-coming musical. Any Busted or McFly fans will really love the show - it's really upbeat and current."

The show originally played at the West Yorkshire Playhouse in the summer of 2012, then ran at the Garrick Theatre in London's West End from October 2012 to January 2013.

Members of the theatre group, which rehearses in Springvale and Barnsley town centre, will be tread the boards at Penistone Paramount theatre, Shrewsbury Road, at 7.15pm on Thursday, Friday and Saturday. For tickets call the box office on 767532.
