BARNSLEY MPs are urging the government not to pull the plug on rail electrification, warning it will be a 'bitter blow' for Barnsley.

Michael Dugher and Dan Jarvis have called for plans for electrification of the Midland Mainline, which connects South Yorkshire to London, to be reinstated.

Seven weeks after May's election, the government announced it was shelving the electrification upgrades - projects ministers 'repeatedly promised to deliver' ahead of, and throughout, the general election campaign, say the Barnsley MPs.

Labour is demanding 'a real commitment' from the government that it will deliver the projects within a clear and published timetable.
