A TEAM of National Lottery winners worth almost £50 million between them swapped their designer handbags and tiaras for gardening tools and hard hats as they helped transform gardens and play areas at Wentworth Castle and Gardens.
The winners, from across Yorkshire and the North East, also planted a memorial tree outside the garden’s landmark conservatory to mark the 300th anniversary of the birth of famous landscape architect Lancelot ‘Capability’ Brown Ð the man responsible for shaping the British countryside.
To mark the occasion, many of the 250 impressive gardens where he worked are opening to the public as part of the Capability Brown Festival with the help of the Heritage Lottery Fund.
