Barnsley FC Ladies have won seven matches in a row and are now fourth in Division One North.

The Reds won 4-3 in a thriller at Norton and Stockton Ancients on Sunday then triumphed 2-1 at Oakwell on Tuesday night’s derby with Leeds United. They are now just four points behind league leaders Burnley.

Manager Chris Hamilton said: “I’m delighted. The girls are absolutely buzzing. We looked at the seven games in October and November, and we thought we could get full points. People outside of the camp probably thought we were crazy, but we knew what we had in the tank, and we’ve done it.”

On Tuesday, Lissa Woodhouse opened the scoring after eight minutes as she took the ball off a defender on the edge of the box and delicately lifted it past the onrushing keeper.

Just past the hour mark, Woodhouse made it two with an 18-yard lob. Leeds could only manage a late consolation with a tidy finish.

At Norton on Sunday, the hosts took the lead in the third minute but Becks Hornsey levelled almost instantly, hitting a half volley from 20 yards.

It was a similar story on 20 minutes. Norton went ahead again from a corner but Sophie Bell whipped a cross in for Woodhouse to head home from inside the area.

Sophie Crosby then put the Reds in front after half-time when her free-kick evaded everyone, including the goalkeeper, and found the back of the net.

Kath Smith had to play the hero after Norton equalised. She danced through the defenders before being fouled then scored the penalty.

The Reds next play on December 2 at home to Newcastle United.
