THE M1 currently has delays of at least 65 minutes from J35A to J35, covering several miles of the southbound carriageway.

The delays are due to a road traffic collision and recovery with lanes 3 and 4 (of 4) closed and Highways England says it has resources deployed to restore normal conditions as soon as possible.

A spokesman said: “For traffic approaching the delays locally, you are advised to expect disruption with extra journey time and you may wish to re-route or delay your journey.”

The agency is advising people who are able to change their route via the M62 or A1(M), allow extra travel time and follow guidance from on-road message signs.

There is further disruption for traffic heading into Barnsley via the M1, with reports of a broken down car on the exit slip road, northbound, at junction 37, Dodworth.
