A MAN given lifesaving CPR by a stranger after collapsing while filling his car with fuel wants to thank his mystery first lifesaver.

Percy Gelder, 73, had just started drawing fuel at the Shell station at Tankersley when his heart suddenly stopped and collapsed between the pump and his car.

His wife Rose said: “I just heard something bang against the car. I jumped out and found him just laid out on the floor. Purple he was. I just shouted out ‘help’.

“Within seconds this chap came over, and he seemed to know what he was doing. He started giving him CPR.”
