A 25-YEAR-OLD who has cerebral palsy went to great lengths to raise almost £200 for the British Red Cross.

Determined Steven Appleyard was cheered on by neighbours and friends as he completed a sponsored swim at the Metrodome.

Steven, who has little use of his legs because of his condition, spent a couple of months training for the 20-length swim.

"It was hard work," he said. "I looked on TV and I had thought for a couple of years I might do something for the Red Cross and that's it, I had my mind set on it."

Steven, of Queensway, Worsbrough Dale, has been supported to live independently since the age of 18 by care providers Home Instead Senior Care.
