TWO weekly market sessions at Penistone's barn have been shut down this week bringing uncertainty about the future use of the landmark building.

The traditional Thursday and Saturday markets are the only regular sessions at the building following a decision by businessman Kieron Knight to pull out of second hand markets he had been running on Sundays and Tuesdays.

Coun Roy Miller said: "The council is happy to work directly with anyone who wishes to use the building.

"The council is committed to supporting Penistone Market and currently areas are being cleaned and pigeon netting put up to help preserve this fantastic facility."
