THE incoming Mayor of Barnsley will use her year in office to try and help improve the lives of people living with dementia.

Coun Linda Burgess will be officially installed as Mayor next Friday. Both her parents died after battling dementia, most recently her mother who died in February just weeks before her 100th birthday.

She will open up the Mayor’s charity as a fund which anyone can apply to - both organisations and individuals - if they believe they can improve the quality of care for people with dementia.
