A CANCER singing group received a visit from the Mayor.

The ‘We Can Survive Singers’ is a cancer support group created by Cheryl Roberts and supported by MacMillan Cancer Support. The group comes together once a week to sing uplifting songs and also enjoy a coffee and raffle. The group is formed of cancer patients as well as cancer survivors.

This week, the group received a visit from the Mayor of Barnsley, Coun Steve Green, where they performed a selection of songs including ‘Let It Be’ and ‘Lean on Me’. Coun Green enjoyed the group’s rendition of ‘This Is Me’ from the film The Greatest Showman.

Cheryl, 52, of Huddersfield Road, Barnsley, said: “Having the Mayor come to our singing group was amazing. He stayed throughout the whole of the session and was singing along. The ladies thought it was wonderful that the service has been acknowledged and they were talking to him about their cancer journeys.”

The group meets every Wednesday from 6-8pm at St Paul’s Church on Greenfoot Lane.
