Barnsley have not won at home in ten games after drawing 1-1 with mid-table Norwich City at Oakwell on Tuesday night.

Oliver McBurnie put the Reds ahead on the stroke of half-time but, after the hosts missed fine chances to add to their lead, Norwich came back well and levelled.

The Reds increased the gap between them and the bottom three to three points as most of their fellow strugglers were not playing while second-bottom Burton Albion also lost.

Head coach Jose Morais made five changes to the side that lost at Middlesbrough on Saturday. Two were at full-back where Andy Yiadom and Zeki Fryers replaced Dimitri Cavare and Dani Pinillos. Goalkeeper Nick Townsend paid the price for his errors on Saturday as he was replaced by Adam Davies, while Mamadou Thiam came in for Ryan Hedges and Brad Potts returned from injury to replace Christoph Knasmullner.

Barnsley were the better team through a tight first half that brought few clear cut chances. Potts and Gary Gardner both fired wide from long-range while Thiam's 25-yard effort hit Potts and went just over. Joe Williams then had a shot on target from the edge of the box which was saved down to his right by Angus Gunn who also caught a Kieffer Moore header.

Norwich had a couple of chances with Grant Hanley header one James Maddison cross wide then sending a similar effort towards Davies who saved comfortably.

But it was the hosts who took the lead in the 45th minute when Yiadom's good low cross from the right was met by McBurnie who flicked it towards goal and, after Gunn touched it onto the post, it rolled across the goal line agonisingly before nestling in the bottom left corner. It was McBurnie's sixth goal in seven starts for the club.

Barnsley had two excellent chances to double their lead early in the second half as Moore forced a good save from Gunn after being slipped clean through by McBurnie then an excellent Yiadom run led to Thiam jinking past a player but dragging poor shot wide from ten yards out.

Norwich then came back into the match but did not create many real chances until Josh Murphy smashed in from close range on the left of the box after a good passing move. Moore went through on goal after substitute Lloyd Isgrove brilliantly chested the ball into his path, but Hanley made a superb last-ditch tackle.

Joe Williams then scuffed a 25-yard shot well wide after Zeki Fryers' corner was punched clear. Moore and substitute Isgrove both had shots blocked in the box following a corner by substitute Stevie Mallan, who then fired wide from long range.

Murphy came closest to winning it as his 15-yard shot was deflected and easily saved by Gunn then his blazed over in the 96th minute after a cross from Maddison fell perfectly for him.
