Jim McNulty has indicated he will sign a new deal at Barnsley and has promised to be back to his best next season.

The centre-half has had a troubled campaign, featuring in just 14 games due to injuries. He has been offered a new deal by David Flitcroft and is expected to put pen to paper in the next few weeks.

He told the Chronicle: "My contract has come to an end now but over the two years I've been here I feel I've offered value. I've played 60 games and, in my first season, I won Players' Player of the Year. I want to stay here, there's no doubt about that.

"I love it at Barnsley and want to get back to my best next season. It hasn't been easy this year with injuries but I know what I'm capable of and will back myself to get back on track next season."

McNulty, 28, was made captain at the start of the season and revealed talks about a contract extension had already begun before Keith Hill was sacked in December.

He added: "It was mentioned earlier in the season but talks broke down because the previous manager's contract was terminated. It hasn't been discussed again because we didn't know what division we were going to be in. Not that's sorted hopefully all the business side of things will be taken care of too."
