PEOPLE are being asked to check they are up to date with vaccinations for measles, mumps and rubella following a number of cases of measles across Yorkshire.

Julia Burrows, Barnsley Council’s director of public health, said: “In Barnsley we have a good uptake for the MMR vaccine so most people are protected but we want to remind residents of all ages that measles spreads quickly in people that aren’t vaccinated. At best it’s unpleasant and at worst potentially dangerous.”

The MMR vaccination is offered to children aged one-year-old and also at three years and four months. But if you think you or your child has not received two doses of the vaccination contact your GP surgery to check. If you book your GP appointments online, you may also be able to check in this way.
