A TEENAGER has been left completely blind - just eight weeks after he first developed blurred vision.
John Winstanley, 14, suddenly could not see a fork he was holding and then fell over a chair he could not see. Within weeks he was left totally blind after bones within his skull and behind his eyes crushed his optic nerves.
Even after ten hours of surgery consultants cannot say why it happened - there is not even a medical definition of his condition.
John, of York Street, Platts Common, says simply: "I do not feel sorry for myself and I do not want anyone else feeling sorry for me."
He is continuing at mainstream school and is learning Braille and has also been given the chance to try out blind football.
He is determined to bring football for visually impaired youngsters to the area and intends to contact Barnsley FC to ask if he can arrange a meeting to discuss his project.
