MEDICS at Barnsley Hospital have successfully released more than 100 patients who were being treated for coronavirus.

Almost 500 people in the town have been diagnosed with the virus but figures released from the hospital show that more than 100 have been successfully treated and released.

Barnsley Hospital director of nursing and quality, Jackie Murphy, said: “We have been privileged to help many patients and families over the last few weeks, and have seen large numbers of people affected by Covid-19.

“We are delighted to have been able to discharge more than 100 now. We thank our community in Barnsley for the support they have provided us with, in words, photos, pictures, donations, and most importantly by following government guidelines to stay home to support the NHS.”
