RESIDENTS on an estate subject to a legal battle between Barnsley Council and a housing developer are holding a meeting between residents and local councillors looking to bring about a conclusion to the saga.

The Lowfield Road estate in Goldthorpe, built by Gleeson Homes, has seen planners involved in a dispute with the developer over its policy on driveways for its new homes. Sheffield-based Gleeson appeared at Barnsley Magistrates’ Court last year after failing to comply with a breach of condition notice issued by Barnsley Council.

The notice refers to Gleeson’s use of gravel on its driveways, rather than solid materials as planning consent requires - which the firm claims is more environmentally friendly.

The meeting will take place at 1pm on Monday.
