TWO pals have pit their wits against each other in a memorial football match in memory of a Hoyland Town Jaguars player who died earlier this year.

The game was to honour Micky Pearce, 43, a former Wombwell Main and Hoyland Town Jaguars player who died suddenly of a heart attack.

His former managers Sam Pickering, 65 and Bill Roby, 68, picked former teammates of Micky for the match at Wombwell Main on Sunday to raise money towards purchasing a defibrillator for the club.

Sam, of New Street, Hemingfield, said: "Micky was a top Wombwell lad who played for ten to 15 years for both clubs. He was an outstanding centre-half or full-back and if we were short he'd go in goal too.

"We will be placing a plaque in the club after and hanging two shirts up that will stay there forever."
