SEVERAL support worker posts within Mental Health Services will be axed by the council in an effort to save £300,000.

Health bosses and council managers have chosen to reduce the staffing budget by the ‘deletion’ of six support worker posts instead of cutting funding to the Barnsley Recovery College which offers educational courses and workshops to people who need mental health services.

A council report said over the last financial year, the council has fallen short of meeting the required £500,000 savings by £200,000. It also started with a £100,000 overspend due to the rising demand on the service and increasingly complex packages of care.

Because of this, it has had to look at other ways to make the savings.
