Barnsley will visit Mick McCarthy's Ipswich Town in their first match of the 2016/17 Championship campaign, which is due to start on August 6.

After taking on the Suffolk side managed by their former player, Paul Heckingbottom's Reds will then welcome Derby County in their first home game following promotion from League One last season.

They then host Queen's Park Rangers for a midweek game before August is completed by local derbies at Huddersfield Town and at home to Rotherham United. 

Barnsley will face local rivals Leeds United – and their former chief executive Ben Mansford – at Elland Road on October 1 then January 21 at Oakwell. Barnsley are due to take on Sheffield Wednesday on December 13 at Hillsborough and April 1 at home. 

The Christmas fixtures will see them at home to Blackburn Rovers on Boxing Day before they host Birmingham City on New Year's Eve and then visit Nottingham Forest on January 2. 

The Easter matches are Wigan Athletic away then Brentford at home on the Bank Holiday Monday. 

They will visit newly-relegated big boys Aston Villa on Valentine's Day, February 14, and Newcastle United on the final day of the season. 

The Reds have also been drawn at home to Northampton Town in the League Cup first round.
