George Miller feels like a new signing despite having been a Barnsley player for five months.
The 21-year-old striker signed for the Reds from Middlesbrough on a three and half year deal in January and was immediately loaned back out to their League One rivals Bradford City who he had impressed with before Christmas.
He has now found a place to live in Thurnscoe and joined in first team training this week. Miller, from Bolton, told the Chronicle: “It completely feels like I am a new signing with a new life over here. I signed in January then just went away without meeting anyone. But Dale Tonge (first team coach) was speaking to me all the time after I signed, through texts and phonecalls to keep me involved.
“I have really enjoyed pre-season so far. Everyone has been really welcoming and it’s a good atmosphere. It was a tough running session on the first day but, apart from that, I have really, really enjoyed it. I am getting to know everyone and the facilities. The staff seem great so I can’t wait to see what unfolds.”
Miller’s fellow Barnsley strikers include Cauley Woodrow and Kieffer Moore who each scored 19 goals as the Reds were promoted last season. He said: “They will be great to learn off and we’ll all complement each other well because we’re all different. Kieffer is a big targetman, Cauley is technical and I get behind defences and stretch them. My main attribute is that I am very hard-working but I also have a lot of pace.”
