THIS is the stunning ‘land art’ which will be seen around the world today as day two of the Tour de Yorkshire kicks off in Barnsley Town Centre.

Artists from the Recovery Through Art team, run by arts charity Creative Recovery, used more than 200 litres of recycled paint and spent four weeks painting the 2,773 sq m land art on top of the markets multi-storey car park.

Inspired by graffiti futurism and Bauhaus posters, it depicts two cyclists speeding through Barnsley with the town hall in the background.

A team of 25 people were involved in its design with more than 30 supporters gathering to help create the finished piece.

It will make an appearance during aerial TV coverage of the race, which comes to Barnsley today.

The women’s race begins at 9am with the men’s race following this afternoon at 2.20pm.
