Millwall took full advantage of ten man Barnsley to romp through 4-1 in the third round of the FA Cup.

The Reds had gone in front at The Den but the hosts fought back to lead before Joe Williams was dismissed and Millwall added another two goals in quick succession.

Barnsley made two changes with Dimitri Cavare playing left-back in favour of Zeki Fryers and Tom Bradshaw starting up front in place of Mamadou Thiam.

Youngsters Will Smith and Ben Williams also made the bench.

Barnsley took an eleventh minute lead with McCarthy finding Adam Hammill whose cross to the back-post found Potts to smash by David Martin.

Bradshaw came close to doubling the advantage but his effort from Lloyd Isgrove's cross was deflected behind.

The hosts came back into the game and levelled through Aidan O'Brien on 35 minutes.

Jed Wallace worked himself into a crossing position and O'Brien was perfectly placed to turn a shot past Adam Davies.

Wallace should have put the hosts in front going into the break but his close-range effort rolled wide of the far post.

Millwall did not have to wait long to go in front after the restart with the unmarked Ben Thompson smashing in from O'Brien's centre.

The Reds' task of getting back into the game was made harder five minutes later with Joe Williams sent off for a lunging tackle on Wallace.

Millwall took advantage of the extra man and went further ahead on 56 minutes through O'Brien's curling effort from the edge of the box.

Fred Onyedinma made it four as he beat Davies one-on-one five minutes later.

Paul Heckingbottom made a trio of substitutions with Thiam, Stevie Mallan and George Moncur brought on but it was Millwall who continued to threaten more with Steve Morison dragging an effort just wide.

Moncur tried his best to get Barnsley back into the game but his effort was easily held by Martin before he fired off target in the final minute.
