AWARD-winning romantic fiction author Milly Johnson yesterday released her latest book, The Magnificent Mrs Mayhew.

Sophie Mayhew - wife of MP John F Mayhew - is admired in the press for her beauty and style and is a typical trophy wife.

But the public have no idea what is going on behind the mask she puts on, and after watching her husband being caught up in a sex scandal, Sophie takes some time out and escapes to a small coastal town in Yorkshire where she finds sanctuary, friendship in abundance.

“So far my book has gone down very, very well,” said Milly, who is also a Chronicle columnist.

“Readers have said that its a little different but can still tell that it’s me.

“It’s about politics which is a subject that I’ve never done before and so far I’m delighted with the first reviews that have come out.”

Milly will be holding a book signing tomorrow at Waterstones in Meadowhall from 11am, an event at Horbury Library from 5pm until 7pm on Monday, and a number of other events - see millyjohnson.co.uk/appearances
