A MOTHER and daughter have been left shocked and sickened after items were stolen from a relative's grave on the anniversary of his death.

Karen Johnstone, 47, discovered a bird figurine had been ripped from the resting spot of her dad Gerald, 68, in Stottercliffe Cemetery.

Gerald, who had a love of birds, died six years ago last week and Karen and her mum Vera, 73, decided to stick a small blue tit ornament to his grave to mark the occasion.

But when Karen, of Lees Avenue, Penistone, returned to the Thurlstone Road graveyard on Monday the item was gone.

"It's very upsetting that people cannot put things on their loved ones' graves without some lowlife disrespecting them," Karen said. "You can see where the thief has prized the bird off and left a mess."

Another bird figurine was taken from Gerald's grave about four weeks ago - at the same time as an RAF ensign was stolen from a war hero's burial spot.
