AMERICANS are going mad for old Minis given bespoke makeovers by a father and son from Barnsley.

Darryl Ashby runs Retro Cars at Freemans Yard, in the town centre near the Alhambra, with the help of 19-year-old son Andrew.

The service centre specialises in restoring vintage Mini motors - turning them from heaps of rusting junk into the glorious, factory-standard machines they once were.

Darryl, 46, says they're getting a lot of interest from 'Mini-mad' Yanks and have already revamped three of the classic cars for customers in the States.

They also restore other vintage vehicles such MGB GTs and are currently working on a 1957 Morris Traveller.
