LOCAL folk are being urged to share their views with the council on plans to stop the mobile library service and replace it with a home delivery scheme.

Coun Jenny Platts, cabinet spokesman, said: "We are facing a big challenge as we look to save a further £28 million from our council budget."In order to meet this we need to save £100,000 from our library service and we are suggesting we do this by stopping the mobile library.

"We appreciate the mobile library service is well liked by those who use it. However, we are faced with some very difficult choices as a council and on balance we believe we must try to maximise the benefit of all our library resources to the wider community."

She said the council wanted feedback on what impact cutting the service would have on users and how they would continue to access the library service.

People can take part in the consultation. Paper copies are available for people to pick up from the mobile library and libraries or on the council website, http://consult.barnsley.gov.uk/portal.
