A MOBILITY scooter user is calling for action to curb inconsiderate parking on a busy Barnsley road.

John Wilkinson, 48, uses his scooter to get from his home on Honeywell Grove, Barnsley, to his girlfriend’s home on Stocks Lane. To get there he goes via Summer Lane and that’s where John comes up against problems because of vehicles parking on the pavement.

He said it is a particular problem outside takeaways and means he can’t get past without a struggle. Last week he injured himself trying to pass a 4x4-type vehicle.

John said: “I was coming along past one of the takeaways and there was a 4x4 parked on the courseway next to a sign post. I tried to get through and caught my leg in the wheel arch.

“It bruised all up my leg and spun my mobility scooter seat round.

“A bloke came out and I asked if it was his car and I said I’d caught my leg in the wheel arch and that he was parked there illegally. He just laughed and drove off.”

John has now contacted the council and requested action be taken to tackle the problem.
