George Moncur hopes to turn his excellent scoring record against Barnsley into a major source of goals for the Reds this season.

The 22-year-old signed a three-year deal at Oakwell on Wednesday after agreeing personal terms last week following a £550,000 bid being accepted by Colchester United.

Moncur, pictured in Barnsley's new away kit, netted 14 goals for the Essex club as they were relegated to League Two last season and has three in three against the Reds.

George, who can play in midfield or up front, told the Chronicle: "Barnsley has been the main club that I have scored goals against in my career. I have had some good games against them in the last two seasons and maybe they remembered me. Hopefully I will continue that but I'll be scoring goals for them now.

"I was happy with the number of goals I got last season and I want to create and score as many as possible for Barnsley in the Championship. It's going to be a bit of a challenge stepping up from League One to the Championship but I am sure we are capable of it. I am really happy to have made the move."

Moncur was also wanted by several League One clubs including Peterborough but says head coach Paul Heckingbottom and assistant Tommy Wright persuaded him to choose Oakwell. He said: "The manager was a massive influence.  There were a couple of other clubs who were interested in me but I spoke to Paul and Tommy and they really persuaded me to come to Barnsley.

"There was also the added factor of moving up to the Championship. "It was a no-brainer."
