MORE than 1,300 people attended this year’s Barnsley Pride and organisers are hoping this is just a start of the success.

This year the event was held on Wortley Street in Barnsley where more than 30 stalls lined the street offering food, drinks and glittery face painting to attendees.

A number of different acts took the the stage to entertain the crowds including dance performers, singers and drag acts.

Aimee Philips who was one of the main organisers of the event said: “There were around 1,300 people that attended all together and other bars in the town opened up to support us.

“We’re hoping that next year Pride will have developed and we can move to a bigger venue. The only reason we had such a small one this year was because we didn’t have a lot of funding.”

Next year will mark the tenth anniversary of Barnsley Pride.
