MORE than 9,000 Barnsley households are living in fuel poverty but uptake for a scheme which funds free improvements to heating systems has been low in the town.
Better Homes Yorkshire says more Barnsley people need to apply for the government funding it is distributing in partnership with Barnsley Council and has called on the services of Bard of Barnsley Ian McMillan to raise awareness of the £1.7m pot of money available through the government’s Central Heating Fund.
He has written a poem called No need to shiver urging anybody struggling to keep a home warm to get in touch.
